Independent Musicians Enjoy Label-Backed Benefits with Internet Radio

More than 79 million listeners tune in to streaming radio stations each week in the United States and as this article from Mashable explains, a new report shows that young listeners are tuning in more and more each week.
Internet radio gives listeners the opportunity to discover more new artists and choose stations based on their musical preference and allows label-backed musicians to extend their already massive album promotions. But it also affords independent musicians a chance to promote their music—and make a little extra money while doing it.
Internet radio gives independent musicians unprecedented access to a huge (and ever growing) audience. Most stations accept submissions directly from artists, so there’s no need to hire a promotions person to release the music for them, and with the ability to choose specific genres of music, it gives artists in unique genres (zydeco , for example) a chance to showcase their tunes to new audiences.
And though the royalties aren’t going to make you rich overnight, internet radio will create some income as you work your way to stardom.
